Did a pit bull kill another dog at Magnuson's off-leash area? | Crime
Title (Max 100 Charaters)
A poster and fliers warning that a pit bull killed a boxer at the off-leash area at Magnuson Park Sept. 25 have set pet owners on edge, but so far no one has filed a complaint.
Seattle Animal Shelter Executive Director Don Jordan said no one has complained to the agency about such attacks, although he has heard rumors of them. The city’s animal shelter is responsible for responding to animal complaints in the city's off-leash areas.
A woman who said she was a professional dog walker handed out fliers about the alleged attack at the park this weekend. She said the woman whose dog was killed was “too upset” to file a complaint. The flyer (not pictured) said the owner of the offending dog returned to the park with his dogs, on Oct. 2, and again attacked another dog.
The flier describes the owner of the offending dog as a “white male, early 20s, heavily tattooed arms.”
Jordan, of Seattle Animal Shelter, said fatal dog attacks in the city's off-leash areas are rare. There are about four or five reports of dog fights per year at Magnuson's off-leash area, a relatively small number, he said, given the park’s high usage.
The number for Seattle Animal Control is 206-386-7387. That’s the number to call if you see a dog attack. You can also call 911. Here are the rules for off-leash areas.
